The Government of South Australia is partnering with SiSU Health in conjunction with The Shane Warne Legacy and Flinders University to provide free heart health screenings at AFL Gather Round.

The aim is to screen at least 9,000 attendees across AFL Gather Round 2024, from 4-7th April, raising awareness of heart health and motivating people to take action to proactively reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and encourage at-risk Australians to schedule appointments with their GPs for further guidance and care.

Community-based screenings and healthcare partnerships are crucial to support people to live healthy lives. By making it easier for you to access to your own health data you can understand your health status, and the potential health risks. Accompanied with information and guidance this may help you make healthier lifestyle choices.

Across Gather Round, there will be 2 health checks available;

The Shane Warne Legacy Heart Check on the SiSU Health Station is self-serve and easy to access offering a convenient way to accurately measure and monitor health indicators over time.

Participants will have their levels blood sugar (Haemoglobin A1c) and cholesterol tested, free of charge giving on the spot results, which will also be available for viewing in the SiSU Health App. The test will take approximately 10 minutes and does not require fasting.

A cholesterol (or lipid profile) blood test looks at the levels of cholesterol and other fats in your blood. Having high levels of LDL cholesterol can lead to plaque build-up in your arteries and result in heart disease or stroke.

Haemoglobin A1c is a marker that demonstrates the 3-month average level of blood glucose level and is used to screen for, or monitor diabetes. 

The Shane Warne Legacy Heart Check is a self-directed, easy-to-use service using the SiSU Health Station. SiSU Health team members will be available to assist if anyone would like help. 

Cholesterol & Blood Sugar Testing Medical Scientists from Flinders University’s International Centre for Point of Care Testing at will be conducting the Cholesterol and Blood Sugar Testing using the Roche Cobas b 101 devices. Flinders University is recognised as a global leader and advocate for point-of-care testing research, teaching and innovation, enabling pathology tests to be carried out in a clinical setting, generating an immediate test result. 

Health Checks will be available at Adelaide Oval, Elder Park, Mount Barker and Norwood Oval. 

All health screenings are designed to provide information on indicators of personal health and potential risks. It is not designed to be a diagnostic service or replacement for professional medical advice. 
If you record a high blood pressure an on screen message will prompt you to consult your GP . If you record a very high blood pressure (160/100 mmHg) or severe high blood pressure (180/110+ mmHg), you will be given a more urgent call-to-action both on screen and also afterwards via a separate and additional emails to consult with your GP.

Cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer of Australians (1 in 4)*.  Your heart is complex, so cardiovascular disease can take many forms, impacting your heart and blood vessels throughout your body, leading to stroke, high blood pressure, kidney disease, impaired blood supply to the legs and other related disorders.

Similarly ‘metabolic conditions’, that is; being overweight, having high cholesterol levels or high blood sugar can increase your risk of diabetes, stroke and heart disease. It is estimated that as many as 30% of Australians are affected by a type of metabolic disorder.

Shane Warne Legacy Heart Check on The SiSU Health Station

• 16 years or older

Cholesterol & Blood sugar testing

• 18 years or older
• Pregnant females are recommended to complete the tests under the care of their GP
• People with diabetes or managing their cholesterol under the care of their GP are recommended to complete the tests with their GP

You will need to download the SiSU Health App and create an account prior to the check, it will save you time.  Your results will appear in the SiSU Health app after your check.

The SiSU Health App is available on the App Store or Google Play.

If you regularly check your blood sugar or have Hba1c tests, we recommend you continue testing with your existing GP or specialist.

You will receive a comprehensive record of your results via the SiSU Health mobile app, results will appear soon after your check.

If your results do not appear by the next day you can contact the SiSU Health team via the Profile section on the App or via the website.

The SiSU Health App contains your results. The easy-to-interpret report from this Health Check will provide a breakdown of results, what they mean and next steps empowering you to take control of your health.

Where a user records high blood pressure and BMI they are served an on screen message to consult their GP or Pharmacist. 

Where a user records very high blood pressure (160-179/100-109 mmHg) or severe high blood pressure (180/110+ mmHg), they are served with more urgent calls-to-action both on screen and also afterwards via a separate and additional emails to consult with their GP.

Results are securely stored and accessible using the free SiSU Health mobile app for regular tracking or annual comparisons.
We treat your data with utmost importance, developing our service with privacy by design, and storing personal information separately from health data. SiSU Health as provider of the SiSU Health Platform is the sole Data Controller and responsible for the secure, compliant custodianship of user data, which participants own and control. We provide you with full data subject rights under the EU’s GDPR legislation.
Our SiSU Health Stations and SiSU Health App are all designed to support you in understanding and improving your health. We need to collect some health information and demographics to achieve this.
SiSU Health’s analytics platform does not include personally identifiable information, and is separate from our central database. Our reporting and analytics services use aggregates and additional methods to control against deductive identification of individuals.

As per SiSU Health’s Privacy Policy, (SiSU Health Privacy Policy AU) we do not sell, lease, trade or rent your personally identifiable data to any third parties without your explicit consent.As per the same policy, we do share aggregated, fully de-identified information with nominated third parties for the purposes of reporting and analytics to understand participation, satisfaction, demographics and health-related insights about large cohorts of users.We also partner with a number of leading Australian Universities, peak health organisations and state and federal health departments to undertake independent, peer-reviewed research and provide insight about population and preventive health. All and any data provided to these organisations is fully de-identified and the scope, and terms of its use are clearly defined and documented. Depending on the nature of the research study and its protocol, we may require your additional specific consent to participate.  Fully de-identified data may be shared with Flinders University as part of the Shane Warne Heart Health check study at Gather Round 2024 and only after ethics approval has been granted.SiSU Health undertakes extensive due diligence with each of its research partners to confirm that their data management protocols and processes relating to security, access and transmission are robust, auditable and compliant. Any health research collaborations with universities must also pass the universities Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) processes.
