The first bowler in history to take 600 test wickets. A former Australian International cricketer and some say the greatest spin bowler of all time.
In 2000 he was selected by a panel of cricket experts as one of the five "Wisden Cricketers of the Century". He was the only bowler selected in this group of famous players.
Shane Keith Warne was born in Upper Fertree Gully, Victoria, Australia on the 13th of September, 1969. Known affectionally as "Warnie" by his thousands of loyal fans around the world. He has three children, Brooke, Summer and Jackson with his ex wife Simone Callahan (born 1970). Warne's life has been plagued by scandal and controversy on and off the field, but is still regarded as one of the best test cricketers of all time.
Shane played his first Test match in 1992 and retired from International cricket in January 2007. In March 2008 he announced his retirement from playing first class cricket to pusue other business interests.
Shane has played for Victoria in the Australian domestic competition and English domestic cricket for Hampshire, where he was captain for three seasons from 2005 to 2007. In March 2008 he signed to play in the Idian Premier League (IPL) for the Jaipur team, Rajastan Royals, where he has taken on the roll of both captain and coach.
Since retirement Shane has worked selflessly for The Shane Warne Foundation. The foundation assists seriously ill & underprivileged children. The charity has raised a considerable amount of money for these children since launching in 2004. His devotion for children through his foundation was evidenced after the Tsunami in 2004 when he donated a vast sum of money to the kids of Sri Lanka.
Australian cricket is left with a very big problem trying to replace the master of legspin bowling.
