Royal Pathan Charges on Deccan

Published by Shane Warne

A hat-trick is special, always is! It is even more special that RR today celebrate a hat-trick of victories after a string of three successive defeats. Someone said it right, when the going gets tough, the tough get going! The Royals put up a convincing show with ball and bat after Gilchrist won the toss and elected to bat. Warne said he would have done the same but having restricted the Deccan Chargers to less than 150; it was a good toss to loose.

The Royals bought in Narwal for Munaf who saw the back of the dangerous Gilchrist in the first over itself. Thereafter, DC raced off to 40 in the fifth over before Tait’s quick short one bought the downfall of Laxman. Gibbs looked fluent but he was dismissed by a Shane Warne classic that had him stumped. That was just the things to come as Warne bowled a brilliant spell (1/16); reminisce of the Warne we all know. Luck and batsman ran out for the Chargers, courtesy some brilliant fielding that affected three run outs. Amongst all the mayhem, Indian team recall Rohit Sharma proved the selectors faith by hitting a strokeful 49 with three sixes. Tait was the pick of the RR bowlers taking three for 22.

Chasing a modest 149 for a win, the Royals’ batsmen went out all guns blazing, racing away to 50 in just the fifth over. Soon thereafter, Ojha was the first to go being stumped. Michael Lumb once again showed why he has the skipper’s faith by smashing 45 off just 32 deliveries before being run out with a mix-up with Pathan. But the evening belonged to the other man who made it the Indian team for the T20 World Cup, Yusuf Pathan. The powerhouse of the Royals and the Indian team annihilated the attack he has a fond liking towards. Pathan blasted a 23-ball fifty that included 5 towering sixes. The party didn’t end there for Yusuf as he ended up smashing 73 off just 34, including a total of 8 sixes, the last one ensuring a thumping 8-wicket win.
